Clos d'Opleeuw Wine Estate

The Clos d'Opleeuw vineyard takes its name from its complete enclosure, which dates from ± 1840. This circumstance makes it unique in Belgium. Indeed, it possesses a specific microclimate that makes it possible to make a high-quality chardonnay wine. It is located on a southern slope in the pretty, picturesque Haspengouw village of Gors-Opleeuw.

The wine, whose official appellation of origin is ‘Haspengouw’, is vinified by Peter Colemont, teacher of general wine knowledge,
tasting French wines and gastronomy and wine at the Centre for Adult Education Hogere Leergangen in Hasselt.
He applies only the very finest winemaking techniques.

The wine spends 1 year in oak barrels of the very highest quality. Both French and Belgian oak are used. The latter therefore makes the wine Clos d'Opleeuw unique! It stands out for its strong velvety character. At a young age, it possesses clear hints of oak.
Yet it retains more than enough freshness and fruitiness. Moreover, we taste aromas of butter, vanilla, toast and a variation of white and yellow fruit. Its concentration, fullness and beautiful finish go excellently with various shellfish and fish dishes prepared with a slightly firmer sauce.
