Want to really experience the Middle Ages?
Then GRAAF in Borgloon is the perfect place to start. In the restored neo-Gothic retirement home chapel and the medieval Graethem Chapel, you’ll meet the 15 counts who left their mark on this region. An interactive trail highlights their conquering spirit, and you'll learn about the vibrant court culture and the strong women who made a contribution to history. At the end of your visit, you’ll meet Louis I and Agnes, the two pivotal figures of this site.
@innekegebruersAt the tourist office, you can buy hiking and cycling maps, pick up a tourist brochure, or discover indoor and outdoor activities in Limburg via a handy data table. That way, you'll be all set for your (medieval) adventure.
Did you know that people have been cared for at this site for centuries? Around 1150, Graethem Chapel was founded by hospital knights who cared for the sick and wounded. In the mid-13th century, Beguines took over this task. After they moved out in the 19th century, it became a home for the elderly. Today, it is an assisted living complex.
@innekegebruersAre you interested in visiting GRAAF? It’s well worth a visit. For adults, there is an interactive trail and an audio guide offers additional explanations. Young people can also immerse themselves in the past with an exciting audio tour.
Young Hendrik Van Veldeke is on hand to guide children. In the booklet Later I'll be... ‘GRAAF’ Hendrik guides children through the Middle Ages in Loon.
