On to the next highlight: fruit. Fruit growing flourished here in the late 19th century. Almost everyone in the region owned fruit trees. Fruit growing still defines the beautiful landscape. An important by-product is syrup from Loon, known as ‘Loonse stroop’, the syrupy sweet gold that put Borgloon on the map.

In this chapter, we take you past the most important places. At the same time, we send you on a journey through fragrant orchards full of blossoms in spring. Past trees and fields full of fresh cherries, pears, apples and other delicious fruit. Feast your eyes and take in the views.

Whether you choose to experience the hustle and bustle of fruit growing at the Syrup Factory, a fruit experience centre, sip an aperitif at a blossom or summer bar, dine at a restaurant or stretch your legs in the rolling countryside – you will be pampered!
